Bácsalmás Small Region

North Bácska is one of the country's warmest regions with excellent farming capacities. The Bácsalmás Small Region was founded by the union of eight villages. The landscape is ruled by immense sunflower fields; numerous species of its flora and fauna are protected. Hungarians, Germans, and Catholic Serbians live here, and there are several national feasts and holidays.

North Bácska is an important centre for Bácsalmás's traffic and transport. The atmosphere of the downtown is determined by noble mansions, and upper-middle class palaces dating from the turn of the century; several are protected by the Ancient Monuments Act. The "blue dye" workshop of the Skotyurák family was founded in 1879 and is still working. The area's only copper-smith is working in the nearby Madaras. The Bácsszolos and Csikéria-forests are excellent for hunting and fishing; the fish ponds also feed numerous protected birds. On the shore of Bácsalmás Salty Lake's loess hills, in oak clearings, can be found the largest population of foxgloves in Europe.
