Small Region Kecskemét
Kecskemét
and its Small Region lies in a 148.308 ha large area in the northern part
of Bács-Kiskun County, in the heart of the Great Plain. It is on a
Sand Table between the Danube and the Tisza. The centre of the Small Region
is Kecskemét Town of County Rights. It is also the county seat. The
other towns of the region are Tiszakécske and Lajosmizse. Tiszakécske
became a town because it is a tourist centre, Lajosmizse because of its traffic
and geography. The village network of the Small Region is young. Kerekegyháza
became a village at the end of the last century, while the other 14 villages
bacame independent from the farmed areas of Kecskemét, Tiszakécske,
and Lajosmizse, this century.
Protected Natural Values
The region is an interesting tourist centre due to its geography, characteristics
of the plain, the immense fields, the world of sandy hills, wild juniper
scrubs, small white farms, sweep-wells and flora and fauna which are famous
all over Europe.
The
various Kiskunság landscape, the Ágasegyháza and Orgovány
meadows rich in orchids, the Fülöpháza sandy hills, the
Tisza back water in Lakitelek, the Kunbaracs oak trees, the wild juniper
scrubs in Ágasegyháza, Kerekegyháza, Orgovány,
Ladánybene and their fauna are defining natural values of our country.
Kiskunság National Park was founded to protect them, its centre is
in Kecskemét. The tour led by their experts give an unforgettable
memory to the visitors.

Several hiking tours are organised for the visitors here. The Tiszakécske
flood forest belongs to the Hortobágy National Park Authorities. Jenei
meadow in the border of the town gives home to several protected species
of plants and birds. The area is favoured by ornithologists.
