Small Region Kiskőrös
Kiskorös
is a romantic, centuries old Great Plain small town, which was depopulated
during the Turkish conquest. In 1718 the Wattai family peopled the region
along with a majority of Slovakian families from Upper Northern Hungary.
The Slovak traditions are still preserved in Kiskorös. Kiskorös
Slovakian Nationality and Harvest Days, based on Slovak traditions and Kiskorös
wine culture, are organised, annually on the first week end of every September,
by the town. Kiskorös is "the town of grape and wine"; during
these days: there is a wine contest, and an exhibition of the local grape
growers' products, in the Wine Street where you can taste the different Kiskorös
wines. Wine tourism has developed; there is a Wine Museum and a Hotel called
Vinum, which has extended the quality and quantity of services.
The
town remembers Petofi on the last day of the year: "Petofi New Year's
Eve" is significant from the view of tourism. The New Year starts with
the mayor's toast and good wishes, literature programs and a procession with
torches. The fans of fishing find excellent fishing ponds, those who look
for peace and silence can rest, hike and ride horses in the farmed area of
Kiskorös. If you wish to cure yourself or recreate, visit our great
thermal spa. Seeing the nationally peculiar Public Road Museum is a special
program. Do not miss the performances of the local brass band and majorette
