Small Region Kiskunhalas
There
is nothing more beautiful for the people of the Great Plain than the immense
fields. There are forested sand hills with juniper berries and protected
plant populations on the land where fruits and grapes grow ripe. The reed
lined lakes are excellent for bird watching, swimming, fishing and water
sports. The hunters and lovers of nature are attracted by the rich game population.
The "Sandworld" offers even more to the explorers: cool cellars
and friendly bungalows in a farmed area. You will not be disappointed if
you long for comfort. The Halas thermal spa and swimming pool with a nearby
hospital creates an opportunity for balneal therapy treatment. More and more
people visit Kiskunhalas for recreation, hiking, sports and culture programs.
The horse riding sports of Halas are internationally recognised. Its world
famous needle lace can be watched and admired in the Csipkeház (Lacehouse)
as the women make it.
Kelebia
Kelebia lies on the south border of the country, the county is in the Bácska
loess tableland. Rare plants can be found on the border of the village e.g.
Bulbocodium Vernum and crocus.
Excavations and geological findings present Kelebia's past. The unregulated
Tisza made the region temporarily marshy. The Huns, the Sarmatas and the
Avars have left traces of their culture here. Stock-rearing was based on
grazing. At the end of the 1950's, Baja archaeologists excavated a Sarmata
grave. The findings of silver treasure can be seen in Baja.
